Conservation District
The Schenectady County Conservation District provides environmental services and technical assistance for County residents. Services include conservation technical assistance, conservation education, information regarding soils, composting, parks and preserves, wildlife habitat, forestry, land reclamation, Erosion & Sediment Control Plan review, engineering assistance, grant application assistance, planning assistance, and agricultural assessment services. In addition, the District cooperates with 8 municipalities, 10 county agencies/departments and 9 New York State agencies on an annual basis.
Compost and Resident Recycling
The Compost and Resident Recycling Facility is open:
January - March: Fridays and Saturdays 8am-3pm
April - December: Monday thru Saturday 8am-3pm

A yearly permit card is required to use the Compost and Recycling Facility.

Permit cards are available to:
- Schenectady County residents and commercial customers to purchase for $25.00
- Out-of-County residents and commercial customers to purchase for $30.00
Your vehicle registration must be presented at the time of purchasing your permit card.
Permit cards are not replaceable. If you lose your card, you will have to purchase another to continue using the Compost and Recycling Facility.
All permits are valid for the current calendar year (January 1 - December 31).

**Please be advised that all yard trimmings, grass, branches, trees, trunks, leaves, etc. must be all natural and free of stones and soil. No treated lumber or wood will be accepted. Please call if you have any questions.
Tipping Fee Schedule
The Gatekeeper will assess yardage for all customers prior to tipping.
Residential (In- and Out-of-County)
- No additional tipping fee for yard trimming disposal. Twelve visits or twelve yards per permit card. No limit per day. If you use up the twelve visits or twelve yards and wish to continue tipping at the Facility, another permit card will need to be purchased.
- Unlimited recycling visits for all residents holding a valid permit card.
Commercial In-County
- Tipping fee: $7.00/cu. yd.
Commercial Out-of-County
- Tipping fee: $11.00/cu. yd.

Bagged Compost: $3.00/bag or 3 bags for $8.00 (each bag 1.2 cu. ft.)
Blended Garden Soil
Bulk Garden Soil: $25.00/cubic yard
Bagged Garden Soil: $4.00/bag (each bag 1.0 cu. ft.)
Natural Woodchip Mulch
Bulk Natural Mulch: $15.00/cubic yard
Bagged Natural Mulch: $3.00/bag or 3 bags for $8.00 (each bag 2.0 cu. ft.)
Colored Woodchip Mulch (red, black & dark brown)
Bulk Natural Mulch: $30.00/cubic yard
Bagged Natural Mulch: $4.00/bag (each bag 2.0 cu. ft.)
All products are made at the facility. Most bagged products are available all year long.

- Electronic Equipment Recycling Program

Program available for residential use for those holding a valid permit card.
As an official drop-off location and a member of the eWASTE Alliance Partnership Network, the Facility will recycle the items collected in accordance with the New York State Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act.
The following items may be recycled at the Facility at no charge:
